Biography

Moraya Seeger DeGeare, MA, LMFT, combines over a decade of expertise as a licensed marriage and family therapist with a forward-thinking approach to relationship health, holding certifications in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and ADHD strategies. As a neurodivergent Black Biracial therapist, Moraya brings an invaluable and unique perspective to the tech world, understanding how diversity in culture and cognitive processes impact interpersonal dynamics. With over a decade of experience, she serves as the In-House Relationship Expert at Paired, where her strategies prioritize fostering intimacy, healthy vulnerability, and meaningful connections.

Moraya is the co-founder of BFF Therapy and a key member of Evolve Therapy, a training hub specializing in EFT for highly distressed couples dealing with complex issues such as infidelity and porn addiction. Her therapeutic approach is anchored in an attachment-based, culture-first methodology, meticulously integrating and honoring her clients' diverse lived experiences. She thoughtfully holds space for the influences of race, sexuality, gender, anxiety, depression, trauma, and cultural backgrounds in her practice.

Raised in a vibrant, multigenerational, professional musical family with a background in dance, Moraya’s early experiences have profoundly shaped her approach to therapy and healing. She integrates somatic practices that provide grounding and promote alignment between personal well-being and relational harmony. This body-centered approach is not just therapeutic; it is part of her soul’s calling, profoundly influencing how she engages with each individual and the couples she supports.

A respected voice in relationship and sexual health, she authors 'Can We Talk?' for Refinery29 and has been featured in NPR’s Life Kit, as well as quoted in publications like Cosmopolitan, Self, Forbes, Vice, Glamour, Popsugar, Wondermind, Decrypt, and HuffPost. Her expertise makes her a sought-after consultant, where she links diversity with wellness for more profound business, professional, and personal growth. Moraya states, “To truly connect with the world, we must be willing to connect with ourselves. In healing ourselves, we are healing little parts of the world, although you can’t fix what you are too ashamed to feel.”

Moraya now calls the coast of North Carolina home, though her roots remain deeply embedded in New York. Her life exemplifies her dedication to nurturing deep, empathetic connections. Alongside her partner and two children, Moraya practices what she preaches — creating safe spaces that empower individuals to engage in their journeys of healing and self-discovery fully. She believes that from birth, our fundamental need is to connect, feel secure within these connections, and lead lives filled with purpose and a profound sense of belonging.
